Usage Guide
The Environmental Information Room of the Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute houses a wide range of materials, including books, academic papers, and other resources spanning the natural and the social sciences. These materials are available for public viewing.
Opening days
Mondays through Wednesdays, except on national holidays stipulated in the National Holidays Act (Act No. 178 of 1948), from December 29 to January 3 of the following year, and on other specially designated days.
The office may also be closed on irregular days.

Books and administrative materials
The library houses approximately 29,000 items, including specialized and general books related to the water environment, as well as administrative documents issued by Shiga Prefecture and neighboring prefectures.
Serials
The library holds serial publications, including magazines, bulletins, and annual reports.

Books and other materials located through 「Book and Literature Search service」 can be viewed in the Environmental Information Room.
Visitors can search for books and other materials stored in the Reading Room.
Copy
Visitors may copy books and materials without restrictions; however, copying is limited to items held by the Center. The following materials cannot be copied:
1. Donated or deposited materials that have a copy-prohibition clause in their conditions.
2.Materials that exceed the capacity of the Center's copying equipment.
3.Materials that may be damaged by copying.
4.Materials that are prohibited from being copied under laws such as the Copyright Act.
5.Other materials deemed inappropriate for copying by the Director.
In addition, copying is not permitted when a librarian is absent.
(Copying costs 10 yen per page. We ask visitors to provide exact change whenever possible.)
