Water quality research vessel Biwakaze
What is R/V Biwakaze?
The research vessel Biwakaze, operated by the Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute, is the largest survey vessel on Lake Biwa, among those owned by other research institutions and private companies.
Designed to support advanced research on Japan’s largest freshwater lake, Biwakaze is equipped with onboard laboratories that enable scientific work even during long transits, a winch capable of operations at depths up to 100 meters, and a crane designed for handling large-scale water sampling and observation instruments.
Serving as an essential platform for water quality monitoring and environmental research, Biwakaze plays a vital role in advancing scientific understanding and conservation of Lake Biwa.
