Through Lake Biwa, which allows us to observe our surrounding environment and lifestyle, we have favorable conditions and opportunities to lead the world in building a sustainable society.
Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute (LBERI) regards Lake Biwa and its watershed as a single integrated system. We conduct research to elucidate environmental phenomena in Lake Biwa and Shiga and to resolve administrative issues from the perspectives of sustainable water circulation, material cycling, and ecosystem conservation. We promote such research comprehensively through a broad research and administrative network, contributing to the creation of a sustainable society as a model in Shiga.
