Overview
This underwater robot is used to monitor the deep benthic zone of Lake Biwa, reaching a depth of up to 104 m, the lake’s deepest point, which remains challenging even for technical divers.
In 2025, the robot was upgraded with advanced features, including a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) for precise positioning and a high-resolution 4K camera.
It was operated by staff aboard the research vessel Biwakaze.
